International Mother Language Day
This Monday is President’s day, but it’s also International Mother Language Day! Mother Language Day is set aside to promote the preservation and protection of all languages. We asked our team to share a few words from their mother languages in a celebration of cultural and linguistic diversity. And as you all likely already know, we’re a big fan of everything bird-related so, naturally, here are some bird-related vocabulary words!
Mandarin Chinese: “bird” = “鸟”
Malay: “bird” = “burung”
Gaelic: “bird” = “eun”
Dutch: “birds” = “vogels”
Turkish: “bird” = “kuş”
German: “flock” = “herde”
These are just a peek at the mother languages we have on staff as we’re lucky to have quite a few bilingual/multilingual team members (but they were busy taking care of everyone’s nests). We’ll be sharing more about the awesome Flocksters who keep our birds flying as the year goes on, so make sure to stay tuned for all the fun things we have in store!
